2010 Roundup of Fall Athletics

2010 Roundup of Fall Athletics

The fall season for Penn State Mont Alto athletics was full of success for student-athletes, both men and women in all sports.  Out of the five varsity sports, at least one player on each team was named to the PSUAC All-Conference team.

Men’s soccer, sophomore defender Corey Duesler was the only member of the Mont Alto soccer team to make Second Team PSUAC All-Conference.  Duesler completed his second year on the Mont Alto soccer team and played a major role on the defensive half of the field.

For cross country, Jennie Diehl who is a freshman and team captain, ran cross country for the first time this year for Mont Alto.  She earned herself a spot on the Women’s Cross Country PSUAC All-Conference team for her outstanding leadership and dedication.

Representing the tennis squad, Kristyan Gates was the runner up for #2 Singles in the PSUAC Tennis Tournament held at University Park.  Due to her accomplishments on the court, Gates was named a member of the PSUAC All-Conference Tennis Team.  Another tennis player shining in the PSUAC Tennis Tournament was Ashley Oswald, who was the #3 singles champion.

Women’s Volleyball continued to bring another year full of victories for Mont Alto.  They went into the PSUAC Championship undefeated in the conference but fell short to Fayette, earning them second place for the third year in a row.  Although it was a tough loss, they still made the USCAA National tournament.  The team traveled back to Louisville, Kentucky to face very competitive teams, sending them home after their four games of pool play.  Four out of the nine women on the team received honors from the PSUAC.  Sophomore Sarah Mobley, and freshmen Christine Walker and Lauren Chapman all earned spots on the First Team PSUAC All-Conference.  Brianne Rice completed her first season of college volleyball and found herself making the Second Team PSUAC All-Conference.  Head Coach Drue Hoffman was behind every game and practice, shaping them into the team they are today.  For all his devotion and success, Hoffman was named PSUAC Coach of the Year.

The Mont Alto Golf team conquered the PSUAC Championship Tournament, bringing home the title again this year.  Sophomore Captain Dan Zeiders was the 2010 PSUAC Individual Champion as well as being named USCAA All-American and USCAA Academic All-American for his achievements on the course and in the classroom.  Freshman Scott Levy was the PSUAC Individual Runner-up and also earned USCAA All-American.  The golf team won every regular season match in the conference this past fall.  The leadership of Head Coach Bill Burke has continuously led the golf team to winning championships, and for this, Burke was named PSUAC Golf Coach of the Year again in 2010.

Overall the fall athletic season at Mont Alto ended with many well-deserved championships and awards.  The program is constantly growing and improving with every new season.
