Baseball starts the 2012 season

The 2012 spring brings to us what we all look forward to every year, baseball season.  In the beautiful mountains of Mont Alto one does not have to listen too hard to hear the crack of the bat or smell the freshly cut grass field.  The Penn State Mont Alto Baseball season is in full swing, and has high hopes of a successful season.  With their first game coming against McDaniel College on March 21st, the team has a good looking schedule of competition with their home opener coming on March 29th against Penn College.

As the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference grows stronger every year, the Penn State Mont Alto team looks to grow with it and has been working extremely hard in the off season to compete at the top of the conference.

With Mont Alto returning six starters, Head Coach Merle Guyer is very optimistic about the hitting and the defense this year.  "We have a lot of good hitters and defensively we should get the job done," says Guyer.  Returning starter and Captain Zeb Thorson is also feeling good about this season stating, "We are going to play our hardest through the season and with the people we have we should be successful."

Along with the returning starters, the team welcomes some top prospects in a few of their freshmen.  Several of these freshmen bring a wealth of knowledge about the game as they are adult-learners.  They have brought with them not only experience in baseball but also the leadership traits to help build the teams success.
