Despite the chilly wind and gray skies Mont Alto (4-3) baseball put a bright spot to their season as they won both games on Saturday in the double header against Brandywine (7-14). Mont Alto pitcher Nathan Topper did nice work from the mound in the first game. Topper allowed only 6 hits and 3 runs in the 7 innings. His teammates lit the scoreboard up with 10 hits and 10 runs, a vast improvement from the game before against Penn College. Third baseman for Mont Alto, Justin Warner went 3-4 with 2 RBIs while second baseman Zach Harvey would put 3 RBIs in the books for his team off a big hit. Brandywine's first baseman, Gabe Encarnacion would have the only triple of the game. Mont Alto finished with the win 10-3.
Game two would be somewhat of a pitcher's duel. Brad Kiracofe took the mound for Mont Alto, keeping Brandywine to 5 straight scoreless innings. Joe Samohod gave Brandywine some exceptional mound time as well, allowing only 2 runs to Mont Alto coming in the second inning. Samohod gave up only 5 hits in his 6 innings worth of work, and struck out 4. Kiracofe would not be outdone in front of his home crowd though, as he posted a 3 hitter, and allowed only 1 run.
Kiracofe had a little help from designated hitter Cody Casey. Casey went 2-3 in the game, including a triple, and 2 RBIs. Mont Alto finished with a 2-1 victory in the second game.
Mont Alto will play away on April 3rd against Penn State Hazleton.
