Mont Alto upsets Greater Allegheny is first game

Mont Alto upsets Greater Allegheny is first game

The rain held off for most of the double header yesterday between the Mont Alto (10-6) baseball team, and the visiting team from Greater Allegheny (14-4).

Greater Allegheny started off the top of the first looking good, bringing in the first run of the game off an RBI from Sam Weightman.  Mont Alto did not rattle however, as they started a surge of their own in the bottom half of the first inning.  Mont Alto scored 4 runs on only 4 hits in the inning thanks to 2 back to back walks for lead-off man Cody Casey, followed by Zeb Thorson.

Mont Alto would continue to put up runs with 1 coming in the 2nd, and 3 more coming in the 4th.  Greater Allegheny tried valiantly, with a 3 run top of the 6th thanks in part to a home run from Oliver Girman.  However, Mont Alto's pitcher, Chase King would not be denied this victory for his team.  King pitched the complete game, and also ended the game with 3 RBIs of his own.

Greater Allegheny relief pitcher, Eddie Emes came in to pitch 4 innings, and had a strong 9 strike-out performance.  Mont Alto went on to win the first game 8-5.

Game 2 was not as successful for Mont Alto as the first.  Zeb Thorson started the game on the mound for Mont Alto, but the pitching was not there for Thorson today, nor was it there for the rest of the pitching staff for Mont Alto.  Thorson walked 7 batters in only 3 1/3 innings even though he threw 3 strike outs as well.

Greater Allegheny pitcher, Teddy Fricke threw a complete game with 5 strike outs to hold off Mont Alto's quick bats.  The rain would come early to put the game away without giving Mont Alto their last at bats, and the damage would be complete.  Greater Allegheny would take the win in the second game 11-6 to split the double header.

Mont Alto is scheduled to play Wilkes Barre on Tuesday, April 24th at Mont Alto.
