Baseball splits with Hazleton

 

Penn State Mont Alto's baseball team played a double-header against Penn State Hazleton on a cold Tuesday afternoon at home.  Mont Alto split the games with Hazleton, dropping the first game 4-3 in extra innings and winning the second
8-6. 

 

Derek Coy started on the mound for Mont Alto in the first game, pitching five innings and only allowing one earned run.  He struck out nine batters, walked only one and allowed just three hits.  Jeremy Pagano was 2-2 at the plate with two walks.  He reached home plate in the second inning but was called out on a close call but he was able to reach home again in the 4th inning to score a run to re-take the lead.  Brady Griest and Justin Warner each also scored a run.  Kevin Norris was 2-4 at the plate. 

Penn State Hazleton was able to score their second run in the 6th inning while Cheadle was pitching and then scored the tying run in the 7th inning.  Cheadle pitched 1.1 innings allowing two hits, two earned runs, walked three batters and struck out one. 

Mont Alto was unable to score any runs in the extra innings, while Hazleton scored in the ninth inning to take the final lead of the game. 

Joe Furry finished the game, pitching 2.2 innings allowing one run on one hit, four strike outs and five walked batters.

 

 

In the second game of the day, Mont Alto was able to bounce back from the loss and get their bats going to score 8 total runs in seven innings of play.

Jordan Weller started the second game on the mound for Mont Alto, pitching the first 5.1 innings, allowing five runs scored. 

Warner and Matt Clark were both 2 for 3 with one RBI.  Warner led the team with three runs.  Pagano was 2 for 4 at the plate. 

Denver Cordell took over at the pitcher's mound the last 2.2 innings of the game.  He allowed one run on three walks, one hit and five strike outs. 

 

Mont Alto will host McDaniel College on Thursday April 4th at 3:30 p.m. for one nine inning game.
