Baseball splits at Brandywine

 

Penn State Mont Alto's Baseball team traveled to Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, April 6th.  They split with Brandywine, Mont Alto winning the first game 9-1 before dropping the second game 3-0.

 

Chase King took the win on the mound in the first game, pitching all seven innings.  He had a great day, only allowing one earned run on six hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. His teammates Zeb Thorson and Kevin Norris had their bats going, each having two hits on four at bats.  Jeremy Pagano recorded three RBIs while Aaron Maze and  Tyler Cheadle each had two.  Mont Alto was able to get three runs in the 5th inning and finished the game with six runs during the top of the seventh inning. 

Brandywine pitched Joe Samohod for 6.1 innings, recording the loss.  He allowed six hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, while walking four and striking out four.  Matt Gallo came in for relief in the 7th inning, allowing four more Mont Alto runs to score.  On offence, Gabe Encarnacion led Brandywine with three hits.

 

 

In game two, Mont Alto was unable to score any runs.  With Derek Coy on the mound, Mont Alto fell 3-0 to Brandywine.  Coy only allowed four hits, three earned runs while walking two and striking out five. A few fielding errors by Mont Alto helped put Brandywine's runners in scoring position twice. 

John Eliot and Matt Clark each had one hit in the game, recording the only two hits for Mont Alto. 

Carmen Scota pitched all seven innings for Brandywine, allowing two hits and had two strikeouts.  Scota recorded the win.

 

Mont Alto returns home on Sunday, April 7th to host Penn State York in a double-header.  The first game starts at 2:00pm with the second game to follow.
