Baseball lost two games to York

Baseball lost two games to York

Mont Alto Baseball kicked off PSUAC conference play on their home field on Tuesday April 1st against York.  This was the first home game Mont Alto has played this season.  After many days of inclement weather, the team and the field was ready to play ball.

The first game of the double-header started at 2:00 p.m.  Mont Alto was the first to score in the second inning and then again in the third.  Taking a 2-0 lead until the top of the six, York came back and scored all four runs.  York earned their first PSUAC win, 4-2.

Both teams only tallied five hits each throughout the seven innings of play.  Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) was 1-4 with a double and RBI.  Matt Clark (Chambersburg, PA) recorded a sacrifice fly and made an impressive double play from center field.  Dylan Bryan (Waynesboro, PA) started off on the mound for Mont Alto, pitching five innings, allowing three hits, four runs all of which were earned, walked one and struck out seven.  Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) pitched that last two innings, allowed two hits and struck out one.

York came out ready to play again the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first.  But Mont Alto answered back with a run.  York continued to score; two runs the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.  Mont Alto was down 8-1 in the bottom of the six and added two more runs to the board but was unable to catch up, losing 8-3.  Freshman Holden Baker (Greencastle, PA) was impressive on offense; he went 2-2 with a RBI.  Jackson Roth (Greencastle, PA) pitched the first 4.2 innings, allowed five hits, eight runs; five were earned, walked four and struck out two.  Furry relieved Roth and pitched 2.1 innings striking out two and walking one.

Starting their season 0-2, they have gained more experience playing as a team and are more prepared for the future PSUAC conference games.
