Baseball drops a game to Gettysburg College

Mont Alto's Men's Baseball had a tough loss against NCAA Division III Gettysburg College, Thursday March 27, 2014. This was Mont Alto's first game of the season.

In the first inning, Gettysburg scored eight runs and increased their lead as the game progressed.  Mont Alto did not start the game as well as Gettysburg, not scoring until the sixth inning.  By the sixth inning the score of the game was 15-2, Gettysburg still leading the way. Mont Alto couldn't get their bats going, only having 7 hits while having 34 at bats.

Jonathan Furness (Chambersburg, PA) and Aaron Maze (Mount Joy, PA) both had a stellar game at bat, each going 2-3.  Furness also had one run, a RBI, as well as a double.

"The team settled in after a rusty first couple innings and played sound baseball," Head Coach Terry Clark comments.  "Errors early were plentiful and the bats for the most part remained as cold as the 2014 prolonged winter weather.  Jonathan Furness and Aaron Maze led the team in hitting.  Furness and Zeb Thorson (Carlisle, PA) contributed double's, along with Thorson's stolen base being the only one for either team."

Gettysburg has played in sixteen games, which showed Thursday against Mont Alto as the final score of the game was 17-2; Gettysburg's win increased their overall record to 14-3 and forcing Mont Alto to a 0-1 record.

"We will keep our heads up and learn from this the areas of this game we need to improve on to reach our full potential this 2014 season," Coach Clark adds.
