Baseball defeats McDaniel, 7-4

Baseball defeats McDaniel, 7-4

Wednesday was an exciting day for Mont Alto Baseball, not only did they earn their first win of the season but they defeated NCAA Division III McDaniel College on the road.  Mont Alto played one nine inning game and brought home the 7-4 win.

The beginning of the game was quiet but the seventh inning was a huge come back for Mont Alto and they secured the win.

Mont Alto was trailing the game 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning with two outs when the Mont Alto bats came alive for a six run inning that proved to be too much for McDaniel to overcome.

In the top of seventh with two outs and Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) on first base, Holden Baker (Greencastle, PA) followed with a line-drive single to right field.  Zeb Thorson (Carlisle, PA) then drove in the tying run with single to left.

Brady Griest's (Biglerville, PA) walk loaded the bases, followed by Matt Clark (Chambersburg, PA), whose two run single to right field put the Lions in front 4-2.

A walk to Mont Alto's number four hitter Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) reloaded the bases, Jonathan Furness (Chambersburg, PA) drove the ball to the left field fence for a base clearing three run double, making the score 7-2.

McDaniel College would add one run in the 7th and one run in the 9th inning but fell short 7-4.

Mont Alto was led by Senior captain Zeb Thorson (Carlisle, PA) from the plate going 2-3 with two RBI's and receiving the win in relief on the mound pitching the final five innings.

This is the first time in years that Mont Alto Baseball snagged a win from a NCAA DIII program.  The team looks to build on this historical victory as they prepare for a weekend full of PSUAC Baseball.

Baseball will host Beaver on Saturday for a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.  They will be back on their home field on Sunday at noon and 2:00 p.m. against Greater Allegheny.
