Baseball falls to Beaver

Baseball falls to Beaver

The Mont Alto's Men's Baseball team had a double header Saturday against PSUAC conference rivals Penn State Beaver, both teams looked ready to go as the game had begun.

Beaver was first at bat scoring two runs in the first inning. They had led Mont Alto by one run until the fifth inning.  Aaron Maze (Mount Joy, PA) hit a ball that was dropped by Beaver's player which advanced Jeremy Pagano to the home plate, scoring a run for Mont Alto and adding an RBI to Maze's stats. This run tied the game at 2-2.

The score was still even going into the 6th inning, Beaver then started to have a feel for the bat. Beaver in the top of the 6th scored two runs, had three hits and two RBI's. Mont Alto on the other hand answered with a run in the sixth by Holden Baker (Greencastle, PA).  Baker was hit in by Brady Griest (Biglerville, PA) who had an impressive day, going 2-3 with one RBI and a walk.

Going in the 7th inning Mont Alto shut them down, allowing 1 hit, no runs and no errors occurring on the field.

Mont Alto had a chance to win the first game of the double header.  Catcher Jonathan Furness (Chambersburg, PA) was first at bat for Mont Alto and hit a fly out to second base.  Next at bat was Maze; he singled putting a runner on base for Mont Alto.

They received their second out when Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) hit a ball to the short stop sending Maze back to the dug-out.  Furry got to base but was substituted for the freshman designated runner Nick Cheadle (Olney, MD) who was caught stealing which gave Mont Alto their third out.

The final score of the game was 4-3, Penn State Beaver winning the first game.

Going into the second game Mont Alto had a 3-0 commanding lead until the fourth inning.  The fourth inning was a rough inning for Mont Alto when Beaver had a 10- run inning.  Now they were now trailing by seven runs.

Beaver also scored again in the top of the fifth inning, pushing the lead to eight runs ahead of Mont Alto.

Mont Alto was unable to get their tempo going after the fourth inning. They had a couple hits in every inning leading up to the 7th but just could not find their way back to home plate.

The final score of the second game was 11-3, Mont Alto losing both games.
