Baseball picks up first two PSUAC wins

 

Mont Alto Men's Baseball team captured their first two conference wins April 9th against Penn State Worthington Scranton.

 

 

Freshman Nick Cheadle (Olney, MD) was first to score for Mont Alto giving them the lead in the bottom of the second inning, 1-0. In the top of the third inning, Penn State Scranton gained momentum scoring three runs.  Unfortunately, a fielding error forced Mont Alto to trail 3-1. 

 

 

The bottom of the fourth Mont Alto was on a mission to regain the lead, they scored six runs. The players started to get a feel for their bats.  Mont Alto took the lead and never looked back; the final score was 8-6.

 

 

The team's bats hit 16-32 (50%), recorded seven RBI's and scored eight runs in first game.  Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) was 3-4, with three RBI's.  Brady Griest (Biglerville, PA) was 2-4 with two runs.  Jonathan Furness (Chambersburg, PA) hit 2-4 with one RBI. Cody Casey (Carlisle, PA) went 2-3 with one RBI and Dylan Bryan (Waynesboro, PA) was 2-3 with one run.

 

 

On the mound for Mont Alto, Jackson Roth (Greencastle, PA) pitched the first three innings, allowed four hits and three runs, struck out one and walked one.  Pagano finished the game, pitching the last four innings and earned the win.  He allowed six hits, three runs, walked one and struck out two.

 

 

The second game of the double-header Mont Alto shut out Scranton, 5-0.

 

Mont Alto scored in the first inning with two runs, again taking the lead early in the game.  Griest scored first by stealing home. Matt Clark (Chambersburg, PA) was second to score after being hit in by Furness.

 

Mont Alto did not give up any runs to Scranton, allowing only four hits for the entire second game. 

 

Cody Casey (Carlisle, PA) was impressive, hitting 2-3, scoring one run while having two RBI's along with a double and a triple.  Furness went 2- 3 with one RBI.  Zeb Thorson (Carlisle, PA) stole two bases against Scranton and also hitting 2-4 and one RBI.

 

 

Freshman Dylan Bryan (Waynesboro, PA) was the pitcher for Mont Alto in the second game.  Bryan earned the win, pitching seven stellar innings, allowing only four hits and striking out seven. 

 

 

Mont Alto dominated at the plate and on the mound which allowed them to conquer the double-header against Worthington Scranton.
