Baseball drops two games to Penn College

 

Mont Alto traveled on Sunday April 13th, 2014 to play a PSUAC double-header against the Penn College Wildcats.

 

Penn College is currently 8-2 in the conference while Mont Alto is sitting at 5-7.  In the first inning both teams added one run to the scoreboard, no runs were scored for either team in the second.

 

In the third inning, Penn College scored two runs taking the lead 3-1 over Mont Alto.  At the top of the fourth Mont Alto's catcher, Jonathan Furness (Chambersburg, PA) hit a single that brought Cody Casey (Carlisle, PA) in for Mont Alto, scoring their second run of the game.

 

Mont Alto's batting average was 4-24 with only two runs and two RBI's.

 

Sophomore Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) pitched all six innings for Mont Alto.  Furry allowed eight hits, nine runs, six of which were earned, walked six and struck out one. 

 

Mont Alto lost the first game 9-2 to Penn College.

 

In the second game, Mont Alto came out ready to play.  This game was much closer than the first.  In the first inning, Mont Alto came out ready to play.  They outscored Penn College 4-3.  After getting into a rhythm Mont Alto had four hits, four runs and four RBI's all at the top of the first inning.  This was a solid and impressive inning for Mont Alto.

 

The second inning, Mont Alto did cross home plate for a run.  Penn College scored once to tie the game at 4-4.

 

In the fifth inning Mont Alto answered back and scored five runs, taking the lead over Penn College, 9-7.  The fifth, sixth and seventh inning were quiet for Mont Alto on offense.

 

In the seventh inning, Penn College scored two runs, winning a close game over Mont Alto, 10-9.

 

Mont Alto hit the ball well but fell short by just one run to the Wildcats.  They ended up hitting 12-33 with nine RBI's and nine runs.  Center fielder Matt Clark (Chambersburg, PA) hit 2-3 with two runs and one RBI.  Playing third base, Josiah Furry (Chambersburg, PA) went 2-4 with four RBI's.

 

Aaron Maze (Mount Joy, PA) started on the mound for Mont Alto.  Maze pitched the first five innings, allowed seven hits, eight runs, six of which were earned, walked 12 and struck out six.  Casey took over in the sixth and allowed one hit, two runs, one of which was earned, walked one and struck out one.

 

The team will travel to Brandywine on Thursday April 17th for PSUAC Conference double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.
