Baseball continues to win, defeating Hazleton in two games

 

Mont Alto Men's baseball faced Hazleton Thursday April 10th after winning the double-header the day before against Scranton.  At the start of the game Mont Alto was on a roll, scoring six runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and four runs in the third inning.

 

 

It wasn't until the fourth inning that Hazleton scored with four runs. The score after the bottom of the fourth was 15-4; Mont Alto was leading the way.  The game lasted until the fifth inning; Mont Alto forced Hazleton into the mercy rule.  It was a team effort for Mont Alto, scoring 17 runs and recording 15 RBI's.  The final score was 17-4 Mont Alto.

 

 

Jackson Roth (Greencastle, PA) was on the mound first for Mont Alto.  Roth pitched the first three innings; he allowed five hits, four runs, walked one and struck out three.  Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) finished the game, pitching two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. 

 

 

 

In the second game, Hazleton took control early scoring three runs at the top of the first inning, Mont Alto answered back with one run at the bottom of the first.  At the bottom of the third Mont Alto scored two runs to tie the game 3-3.  The fifth inning was quiet, neither team scored. This sixth inning was a different story; Mont Alto scored 11 runs, again forcing Hazleton into the mercy rule.  Mont Alto picked up another win for the day, 15-5 over Hazleton.

 

 

As a team, Mont Alto hit 18-36 (50%), scoring fifteen runs and also having ten RBI's.

 

 

Jeremy Pagano (York, PA) was 2-3 with three Runs and two RBI's.  Matt Clark (Chambersburg, PA) had a perfect at bat, going 4-4 with two RBI's and scoring two runs. Aaron Maze (Mount Joy, PA) went 3-4, with one run and one RBI.

 

 

The starting pitcher for Mont Alto was Holden Baker (Greencastle, PA).  Baker pitched four innings, allowed six hits, three runs, walked three and struck out five.  Corbin Yoder (Waynesboro, PA) entered the game in the fifth to earn the win.  Yoder pitched two innings, allowed two hits, two runs and walked one.

 

Although Mont Alto was trailing at one point in the second game, they turned it around and came away with their fourth consecutive win.
