Penn State Mont Alto Picks Up First Conference Victories of the Season

Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team hosted PSU New Kensington for a doubleheader on Saturday. Mont Alto (6-14-1, 2-2 PSUAC) shutout the visitors in both games, first by a 4-0 score and in the nightcap the Lions won 10-0 in five innings.

Inside the Box Score

  • Lowell Singer lowered his season ERA to 4.83 after his first career shutout in the 4-0 win for Mont Alto. Singer scattered three hits across seven innings and also struck out three.
  • Dylan Bryan made his first start on the mound since the season opener against Apprentice (Feb. 17) and he was nearly flawless striking out 10, while only conceding one hit across five innings of work.
  • Jeremiah Younker hit his third career homer in the first game and has two on the season, which is tied for second in the PSUAC.

Penn State Mont Alto 4, Penn State New Kensington 0 (F)

  • Younker opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with his solo home run.
  • Penn State Mont Alto added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Younker got things started by drawing a walk and stealing second. He scored on a Brady Topper double. Topper would make it 3-0 when he scored on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Spencer Meyers. The final run occurred an inning later when Joel Clabaugh battled with Dante Palmieri for a bases loaded walk.
  • Both teams combined for six hits on the afternoon

Penn State Mont Alto 10, Penn State New Kensington 0 (F) 

  • Penn State Mont Alto had a huge bottom of the fifth inning scoring seven runs to force the mercy. The Lions combined for seven hits within the inning.
  • PSU New Kensington mustered their lone hit of the game in the top of the fifth and it came from shortstop Noah Oddis.
  • The middle of the Mont Alto lineup did most of the damage as Matt Taylor, Tyler Martin, Jeremiah Younker and Brady Topper combined to score seven of the 10 runs and went 7-for-11 at the plate.
  • Martin had the lone extra-base hit as he doubled in the bottom of the fifth. He now has four doubles on the season.
