By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

York, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team was only able to get one of its two scheduled games with PSU York due to the rain on Saturday as the visiting Lions scored the eventual winning run in the top of the fifth inning for 3-2 win. The teams battled in PeoplesBank Park, which is home to the York Revolution.

Penn State Mont Alto (9-21-1, 4-5 PSUAC) out-hit Penn State York as William LaRussa held the home standing Lions to three hits and was credited with giving up two unearned runs. Mont Alto opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Colby Black scored on an RBI single off of the bat of Tyler Martin. The Lions made it 2-0 an inning later when Cory Chatfield lined a single that scored Brandt Swartz.

Penn State York rallied to tie it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Leadoff hitter Austin Lehman scored on a defensive error by Mont Alto and Dixon Wiley hit a sacrifice fly, which drove in Jonny Stratton.

The eventual winning run was scored in the top of the fifth inning as Tyler Martin slapped a singled and advanced to second on an error by the PSU York first basemen. Jeremiah Younker moved him over to third on a double and Martin scored on a wild pitch. The game was called because of the rain in the fifth inning after a three-up, three down bottom half of the frame.

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action tomorrow April 23 for a pivotal doubleheader with Penn State Beaver. Game times from Beaver are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
