Mont Alto, Pa. – Penn State Mont Alto sophomore Jeremiah Younker was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball All-American First Team and freshman Brady Topper was recognized on the Second Team last week. Outfielder Joel Clabaugh and pitcher Joe Garrish were also recognized at the USCAA Postseason banquet for their outstanding efforts in the classroom as each was named to the All-Academic Team.

Younker, who was a First Team All-American as a freshman in 2016, also was recognized as a First Team All-Penn State Athletic Conference honoree for the second time this spring. He led the team in batting with a .462 average, had 49 hits including six doubles, four triples and five home runs, which tied for fifth in the PSUAC.

Younker came on strong at the end of the season, collecting 16 hits in the final six games of the season and was instrumental in helping Mont Alto win the 2017 PSUAC Baseball Championship. He also added 25 runs scored, 34 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 34 games overall.

Earlier this offseason, Brady Topper made it two-straight years in which a Mont Alto athlete received the distinction as PSUAC Newcomer of the Year. Topper started the season slow at the plate, but caught fire after early season games during Spring Break in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The second basemen earned Second Team All-American status after batting .369 in 103 at-bats and displayed a slick glove with a fielding percentage of .945. Topper finished the season with seven doubles, 23 runs scored and contributed 18 RBIs, which tied for 10th in the PSUAC.

Joe Garrish and Joel Clabaugh were part of USCAA National Academic Team for the first time in each of their careers. The recognition is awarded to student-athletes each season who have amassed a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 prior to the spring semester and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Combined with fall and winter winners, Mont Alto placed 15 student-athletes on national academic teams this year through the USCAA.
