MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team committed a season-high seven errors as the mistakes turned out to be too much to overcome in a 10-3 loss to Hood College on Wednesday afternoon. To the player's credit, they battled through wind gusts at excess of 30 mph throughout the nine-inning contest.
Inside the Box Score
- Hunter Martin (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) went 2-for-4 at the plate, which included a two-RBI double that hit the right field fence in the bottom of the first inning.
- Joel Clabaugh (Landisburg, Pa. / West Perry) battled on the mound taking the loss for Mont Alto after conceding four earned runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work.
- Mont Alto collected seven hits overall with Brady Topper (Littlestown, Pa. / Littlestown), Jeremiah Younker (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport) and Martin each recording a double.
How it Happened
- Hood College opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, but PSUMA would respond in the bottom half of the stanza with a pair of runs off the bat of Hunter Martin (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown).
- The Blazers would retake the lead at 3-2 in the second inning when Cam Esposito grounded into a fielder's choice and Brooks Warrenfeltz slapped an RBI single off of Clabaugh.
- The Nittany Lions clawed back a run to tie it up at three runs apiece in the bottom of the fourth inning. Landon Richards (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) pushed across a run with his fielder's choice to the visitor's shortstop.
- Fielding mistakes hurt the Nittany Lions in the fifth inning as they conceded an unearned run and another run when Jordan Patterson reached on a dropped fly ball.
- The visitors added four more insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Notes
- Ryan D'Allesandro earned his third win of the season for the Blazers, surrendering three earned runs while striking out four in four innings on the bump.
- The Blazers combined for 14 steals on the base paths.
Penn State Mont Alto (5-9, 1-0 PSUAC) returns to conference action on Friday, April 6 when it hosts PSU Greater Allegheny for nine-inning game at 2 p.m.
