Win Streak Ends at the Hands of Greater Allegheny

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team saw its seven-game win streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Lions dropped a nine-inning contest to Penn State Greater Allegheny. PSUGA was able to escape town with a 4-3 conference win as they improved to 9-10 overall and 4-5 within the PSUAC.

Mont Alto served as the away team even though the game was played on campus as it was a pitcher's dual early with neither team able to bring a run home until the third inning. Jordan Williams led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk and was plated on a Dan Ernst double. PSUMA had an immediate response as AJ Millar (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) helped his own cause on the mound with an RBI fielder's choice, which tied it up at 1-1.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the seventh frame when Greater Allegheny went up 2-1. PSUMA once again immediately responded in the next half inning as a Jeremiah Younker (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport) sacrifice fly tied it back up. PSUGA went up 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning and a Colby Black (Shippensburg, Pa. / Big Spring) RBI single set the stage for an exciting finale.

Greater Allegheny outhit Mont Alto by a 10-6 margin as PSUMA really hit the ball hard all afternoon long but were unable to find the gaps on Sunday. Chance McClure (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) ended up taking the loss in relief as the first batter of the bottom of the ninth was hit by a pitch and PSUGA quickly loaded the bases up with no-outs. Marcos Lopez played the part of hero as he poked the game-winning single to left field giving Greater Allegheny the 4-3 walk-off.

Mont Alto (16-12, 7-2 PSUAC) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 9 with a road non-conference doubleheader against Central Penn. First pitch from the In the Net Sports Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
