Cheerleading Alumni come back for event

Cheerleading Alumni come back for event

On Saturday at the Mont Alto Men's and Women's Basketball games you may have heard a new cheer from the cheerleaders…

"Lions, here we go, here we go. P-S-U!"

"Move over, step back.  The alumni are back."

Over 15 Penn State Mont Alto Cheerleaders were back on the court celebrating their alumni day and cheering as one big squad with the current cheerleaders.

They all had matching navy and white alumni shirts and once they stepped on the mats, their cheerleading skills were back.  As group they cheered together during the men's game and performed a halftime routine.  It was impressive how in sync the current cheerleaders and alumni were considering they only practiced together for an hour before the game.

This was their first ever Mont Alto Alumni Cheerleading event and it was a success.  Not only did alumni and the squad do routines and cheers together but there were also several stunts performed.  At halftime, after their routine, the alumni were each recognized by the game announcer.

Sandy Sheppard, who has been with the squad since 2008, served as captain from 2010-2012 and is in her second year as the team's assistant coach.

Jenni Kump was last year's captain.  The 2011-2012 Nittany Lion, squad captain Kristen Costa and cheerleader, Rachel McMullen were among the group.

Cheering from seasons 2007 to 2009,  were Cayla Amsley, Ashley Lawrence, Kyla Renninger and Whitney Richardson

Heather Manning, Kristen Pugliese and Stacey Cornwall all cheered between 2004 to 2007.

Jennifer Conway, Leah Mattei Loo, Shelli Luchs, Sharon Monn and Ashley Schreiver all were a part of the alumni who were on the teams that earned our campus the banners on the wall for the CCAC Cheerleading Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Head Coach of the Penn State Mont Alto Cheerleading squad, Christina Yoder was the captain of those championship teams, who in September will celebrate 10 years as Head Coach at Mont Alto.

The alumni plan to team up with the cheerleaders and make this an annual event.
