MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto cheerleading squad has named Kaitlyn Mumma (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) its Cheerleader of the Month for January. The award is based on nominations from the team and is given to a cheerleader who stands out in her efforts for the month.

Mumma, a sophomore back/base, was nominated by her teammates for her leadership and guidance, and the consistency she provides for stunts.

"Kaitlyn has been something of a quiet leader, but her teammates and I have really seen her coming into her own," said head coach Jennifer Deinlein. "When she speaks, she's offering thoughtful guidance. Her experience and consistency as a backspot is helping our newer stunters develop, and she also has the versatility to base – and even occasionally fly!"

The Mont Alto cheerleaders cheer at all home men's and women's basketball games and make appearances at community events. They wrap up a busy 10-day homestretch with the men's game vs. Penn State-Shenango on Saturday at 2 p.m., and conclude the regular season with a doubleheader Friday, Feb. 15, which is Senior Night.
