The kick off to basketball happened in full swing at Penn State Mont Alto. Mont Alto Men's Basketball team hosted their first annual Midnight Madness on Friday, October 14th, 2011. The event took place from 10:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. in the MAC Building on campus. Fans were lined up out the door by 9:30 p.m. to be one of the first 50 students to receive a free Mont Alto Basketball t-shirt. The team entered the court to a gym full of students and fans in the stands. Each player threw a shirt to someone in the crowd. The eventful evening of basketball consisted of drills, slam dunk contests and an inter-squad scrimmage.
The players were not the only ones competing; the fans were chosen to represent a player for a chance to win gift cards during the slam dunk contest. Trivia was also a topic of the night, keeping the fans on their toes, for many chances to win prizes. There was music playing throughout the evening entertaining the fans and team.
It was a very positive atmosphere, with the fans supporting the team to the players getting pumped for the 2011-2012 season. The new Head Coach Jack Schenzel was the organizer of the event and his enthusiasm for the team and program is off to a great start. Although it was a late night, it didn't stop the fans from cheering and the team from playing. Mont Alto Athletics is extremely excited for the upcoming basketball season.
