Mont Alto opens their season against Lehigh Valley

The Penn State Mont Alto Men's Basketball team's season began with a home opener against Penn State Lehigh Valley.  Mont Alto took the lead right away, dominating on both defense and offense.  "I think that we played hard on defense and executed our game plan. I was able to use the whole bench tonight and everyone responded with great effort," commented first year Head Coach Jack Schenzel.

Going into halftime, Mont Alto was leading 55-10.  Lehigh Valley has just started their men's basketball program and this was the first time Mont Alto faced them.  Coach Schenzel added, "I think that Lehigh Valley will turn it around, they have a good coach who will bring in players that fit his system.  It is tough to start a program from scratch and succeed right away."

Heading into the second half, Mont Alto continued to score, score and score.  Adding 45 more points to the board, Mont Alto reached 100 points with only seconds left on the clock.  The team had very balanced scoring throughout the game with six players in double figures and two with at least 8.  Jeff Bowie led the way with 16 points on 6 for 7 shooting with four three pointers.

Defensively, Mont Alto had four players with at least four steals. Both freshmen Tyree Maeser and Sedrick Washington each had five.  Freshman Kenford Lynch led the team with 11 rebounds.

"We still have a long way to go to be the team we think we can be, but it is always good to get that first win so that you can build momentum through the early part of the season," Coach Schenzel explains.  "I want to thank the crowd last night. It was memorable for my first win with the program. I hope we can keep the gym that full all season."
