Mont Alto falls to Brandywine by three

Penn State Mont Alto Men's Basketball team traveled to Penn State Brandywine for a conference game on Wednesday night.  It was a heartbreaker for Mont Alto who was topped by Brandywine in overtime, 80-77.

Mont Alto started the game with a 7-0 lead before Brandywine scored their first basket.  Each team went back and forth exchanging the lead but Mont Alto went into half time with a one point advantage.

During the second half, Mont Alto came out strong again before Brandywine hit a couple jumpers and 3-point shots to get back into the game.  Corey Myers for Mont Alto hit a free throw with 1:37 remaining in regulation time to tie up the score.  Neither team was able to score again before the buzzer went off.

In overtime, Brandywine scored first with a jumper but Cameron Bowens responded for Mont Alto to make it an even ball game.  With 2:24 left in extra time, Brandywine took and the lead and Mont Alto was not able to catch back up.

"The game was hard fought from start to finish.  Every time we went on a run Brandywine would go on a run.  This was a great game for all involved but a tough loss to be sure," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "We had the opportunity to move into first place tonight and could not get it done."

Mont Alto was led by Bowens who had 22 points and eight rebounds.  Sharif Welton also added 16 points and brought down nine rebounds.  While Keven King had 12 points and DeVonte Merritt recorded 11 rebounds.

Brandywine's Rasheed Wilkens had 28 points.

"Brandywine is well coached and on a good run right now. We have to get ready for a trip to Beaver. We need to be on top of our game there," Coach Schenzel adds.

Mont Alto will travel to Beaver on Saturday, January 19th for a 3:00 p.m. tip off.
