Mont Alto comes up short against undefeated Beaver

Penn State Mont Alto traveled on Saturday to play against Penn State Beaver in a tough conference match up.  Going into this game, Beaver was 12-0.  Mont Alto tried to break up their undefeated conference record but came up short, falling 90-79.

Beaver scored the first points of the game and they did not let Mont Alto gain the lead at all throughout the game. Going into half time, Mont Alto trailed 49-32.  They came out strong in the second half but not enough to defeat Beaver.

"We started out sluggish and got into a hole.  We trailed by as many as twenty in the first half," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "Our goal was to cut the lead to 10 points with 10 minutes remaining and we were able to get it there around five minutes.  We just could not get over the hump," Coach Schenzel adds.

Jeremiah Mitchell led Mont Alto with 17 points, while Sharif Welton had 15 points.  Keven King and DeVonte Merritt each added 11.  Welton had a team high 12 rebounds for Mont Alto.

"Beaver is a good team and we played in their gym which is not an easy place to play. We played hard but made some crucial mistakes at times that cost us."

Beaver was led by Nick Miller, with 33 points and he also scored his 1000th career point. Chris Weathers had 27 points and nine rebounds for Beaver.

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Tuesday, January 22 at home against Penn State Schuylkill at 8:00 p.m.
