Mont Alto drops to Schuylkill by two

Penn State Mont Alto Men's Basketball was looking to end their three game losing streak Tuesday night when they took on conference opponent, Penn State Schuylkill.  Mont Alto fell short of their goal and ended up losing 58-56.

"Last night was a hard fought game, unfortunately we are struggling with confidence as a team when it comes to controlling the ball," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.

Mont Alto started the game strong, keeping the lead the whole first half.  They entered halftime with a score of 30-22, leading Schuylkill by eight.  The beginning of the second half was also in Mont Alto's favor, keeping a consistent lead.  With four minutes remaining in the half, the tables turned and Schuylkill took control.  Colin Nurse, Jr. hit a three point shot that gave Schuylkill a two-point lead.  Sharif Welton answered back with a made lay-up and one to put Mont Alto ahead.  But with a minute left, Schuylkill's Patrick Killian hit a jumper to give them the final lead and Mont Alto was not able to catch up.

Welton had a double-double and led Mont Alto with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Cameron Bowens added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jeremiah Mitchell contributed nine points.

"I believe we have the ability as a group to rebound against Lehigh Valley and put a run towards playoffs," Coach Schenzel adds.

Mont Alto will be back on the road Thursday, January 24th when they travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley for a 7:00 p.m. game.
