Mont Alto Men fall short to Du Bois, 74-69

Penn State Mont Alto Men's Basketball team dropped their second straight close PSUAC game last night at Penn State Du Bois.  The game came down to the last 4 seconds and Du Bois was able to come out on top, 74-69.

Mont Alto opened the game with a layup by Sharif Welton and had a 10-2 lead after over four minutes of play.  But Du Bois fought back to gain the lead before halftime.  Mont Alto trailed by seven points at the start of the second half.  They played strong and controlled most of the last 20 minutes.  With 2:30 left in the game Keven King made a layup, Mont Alto had a five point lead.  Du Bois answered back with five more points to tie the game up at 69-69 with a minute left.  Du Bois' Woody Mitchell had the ball with seconds left on the clock and hit a three point shot to take the lead.  Mont Alto had one last chance to tie the game again but Du Bois was able to steal the ball and Mitchell made a lay-up with four seconds left to finish off the game.  Woody Mitchell scored his 1,000 point during the game.

"It was a good game; offensively it was the best game we played this season.  Defensively we made a crucial error for Du Bois to have a shot and win the game with four seconds on the clock," commented Head Coach Jack Schenzel.

Welton led the team with 16 points while Cameron Bowens had 12 points.  Collin Easter grabbed 10 rebounds, eight coming off defensive rebounds.

"We were down by seven at half time and battled back in the second half. I am proud of how the team played."

"Du Bois is a well-coached team and they have some very good veteran players."

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Saturday, February 2nd at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
