Men's Basketball Defeats Bayamon Central University in Puerto Rico

The Penn State Mont Alto Men's Basketball team is in Puerto Rico for a tip-off tournament in San Juan at The University of the Sacred Heart.  The Men's Basketball program raised the money to make the trip possible.  This is the first time in the history of Mont Alto Basketball that any team has gone to this tournament and competed at this level.  It is a very exciting experience for the team and coaches.

Mont Alto faced Bayamon Central University, which is located in Puerto Rico, for their first game of the tournament on Saturday November 23rd at 5:00 p.m.  Bayamon Central University is a NCAA Division II Athletic Program.  Our Men's Basketball program was able to conquer Bayamon 65-46.

Devonte Merritt (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) had another outstanding performance for Mont Alto.  Merritt scored seven of his eight free throws along with recording four steals.  Merrit was the leading scorer, contributing 13 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.  Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA/Sullivan County) added 12 points for Mont Alto.  Siele Johnson (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) also brought great offense to the game with 11 points.

The win was a total team effort for Mont Alto.  Everyone on the bench saw several minutes of game time and played a major role in the big win.
