Men's Basketball defeats McDaniel, 65-62

History was made tonight for the Mont Alto Men's Basketball team.  It was the first time that the men's program had defeated a NCAA Division III team on their home court.  Mont Alto hosted McDaniel College and kept their undefeated streak going, winning 65-62.

"Tonight was a big win for us and the program," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "Once again it was a total team effort.  Defensively we did a great job of holding them to 37% shooting percentage and 20% from the three point line.  All week the team was focused on getting a win tonight against a very good team."

Freshman Jamaal Carter (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) came off the bench strong for Mont Alto, leading the team, scoring 13 points.  Starting forward, Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.  Corey Meyers (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) also was in double figures with ten points.

"Jerome was one rebound away from getting a double-double tonight and Jamaal played well off the bench as our leading scorer and he made some nice plays down the stretch."

The score was close throughout the game but Mont Alto went into halftime ahead by four and kept the momentum going until the end.  Many crucial shots were made in the final seconds of the game to secure the win.  Two of the shots were free throws from Bobby Ingram (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) to give Mont Alto the three point lead.

"It was almost like a game against our mirror image because Coach Curley and I run a lot of the same offensive sets and we play the same style of defense," Coach Schenzel adds.  "A lot of the guys were feeling under the weather before the game.  This was truly a gutted out victory for us and a great way to start the second semester."

The men will travel to Williamson on January 8th, 2014 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
