Men's Basketball drops first game of the season

After winning 12 games straight, the Mont Alto Men's Basketball team lost their first game of the season by one point in overtime.

The men traveled to Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades on Wednesday night for a non-conference match up.  Although Mont Alto had the lead going into the second half and most of the game, Williamson came back with only a few minutes left on the clock and forced the game into overtime.  It was a tough loss for Mont Alto, dropping their first game, 67-68.

"Obviously it was a disappointing loss for us," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "Williamson played hard and Coach Michaels had a good plan for them.  We had several opportunities at the end of regulation and overtime to win the game but we did not make plays to do so."

Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) and Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA/Sullivan County) both had stellar games off the bench for Mont Alto, contributing 16 points each.  Starting guard Bobby Ingram (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) added another 12 points.

"We had solid performances off the bench from Sharif and Jerome.  Siele Johnson (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) did an excellent job defending Williamson's USCAA All-American at different times throughout the game," Coach Schenzel adds.

Mont Alto still remains undefeated in the PSUAC and plans to keep it that way.  Mont Alto will host Scranton on Thursday January 16th, women at 6:00 p.m. and men at 8:00 p.m.

"I hope the team takes this opportunity to refocus on the fundamentals we teach so we can get back to playing solid basketball, Coach Schenzel comments.
