Men's Basketball falls to Fayette, 83-70

Friday night's result was not one the Mont Alto men's basketball team had hoped for.  They traveled to Fayette for their 10th conference game of the season.  Fayette took the lead at halftime and never looked back.  Mont Alto dropped their second PSUAC game of the season, 83-70.

"We did not shoot the ball extremely well tonight, that was our downfall because we were not able to get stops on the defensive end," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "Defensively, this game was the poorest we have played all season.  When we don't play consistent defense, we struggle as a team because that is what provides energy for us."

Devonte Merritt (Chambersburg, PA) was Mont Alto's leading scorer for the night with 16 points and nine rebounds.  Freshman Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA) came off the bench strong, recording the only double-double for Mont Alto with 14 baskets and 11 rebounds.  Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA) led the team in rebounds with 15, four offensive and 11 defensive.

"Fayette played a strong game tonight and came out with motivation and energy.  They made good plays and every time we made a run, they were able to answer," Coach Schenzel adds.  "I told the team road games are tough in the PSUAC, we have to play our style game and be mentally tough."

The men traveled to New Kensington on Saturday for their next conference game of the season.
