Men's Basketball earns a victory on the road

After a tough loss Friday night, the Mont Alto Men's Basketball team returned to the court on Saturday ready to play.  Mont Alto traveled to New Kensington for their second game of the weekend and they brought home a win.  Although it was a close scoring game in the first half, Mont Alto kept the lead all game.  Their combination of stellar defense and explosive offensive secured the 76-60 win.

"The New Kensington game was a quick turnaround for us and we got off to a sluggish start defensively," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "We had a good discussion at halftime and the team refocused on playing hardnosed defense and it showed in the second half.  We outscored them by 20."

Five of Mont Alto's ten players scored in double digits.  This was a huge team effort.  Devonte Merritt (Chambersburg, PA) was the only player that recorded a double-double, scoring 14 and rebounding 10.  Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA) also added 14 points towards the victory.  Both Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA) and Chad Smitz (Carlisle, PA) came off the bench and each contributed 12 points.  Starting guard Bobby Ingram (Frederick, MD) earned 10 points.

"We got a huge spark off the bench from Chad, scoring 12 points.  Devonte, Jerome and Sharif did a great job dominating the paint on offense," Coach Schenzel adds.

Mont Alto is currently 9-2 in the PSUAC with six conference games ahead.  All of which Mont Alto will have home court advantage.  Their next game is Tuesday January 28th against Schuylkill at 8:00 p.m.
