Men's Basketball wins a big game against Beaver

The gym was packed at Mont Alto on Saturday with lots of fans eager to a see a competitive game against Beaver.  That's exactly what they saw.

This was the first time Mont Alto faced Beaver this season and it was on their home court in front of the most fans they have seen all year.  Both teams came into the game with only two losses in the PSUAC.  Mont Alto kept their streak going, winning their fourth PSUAC game in a row, 107-99.

"This was a fun game to be involved with," Head Coach Jack Schenzel comments.  "Both teams played well and we were able to pull out the win in the end.  Beaver's Coach Williams runs the top program in the league and any win against them is big."

Throughout the game Mont Alto was in the lead and did not let Beaver catch up.  Going into halftime Mont Alto was up 50-44 and came out in the second half and scored 57 to their 55.  Although the score was close, Mont Alto played stellar offense and that's what secured the win.

Sharif Welton (Sullivan County, PA) had another impressive game; Welton was the leading scorer with 20 points during his 30 minutes of play.  Devonte Merritt (Chambersburg, PA) added 18 points and nine rebounds.  Corey Meyers (Greencastle, PA) was back in double digits with 16 points.  Both Jerome Evans (Carlisle, PA) and Bobby Ingram (Frederick, MD) each scored 15 points.  During Evan Ehrhart's (York, PA) ten minutes of play he scored 10 points.

"We had great balance with six guys in double figures and five guys with at least six assists. This was our best offensive game this year and I hope we keep it rolling, Coach Schenzel adds.  "This win allows us to keep in the running as at least the number two seed for the conference playoff tournament. It will also be a good win for the USCAA selection committee to look at if we need an at large bid."

The men have three PSUAC games left before playoffs.  All of which they will play on their home court.  The next game is Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. against Brandywine.
