Mont Alto Starts the Season Strong

Mont Alto Men's Basketball was not only hosting the 3rd Annual John Benchoff Tournament tonight on the Mont Alto campus, but also helped kick off some new events for the season.

Wilson College played its first ever men's basketball game in the first of a double header against Davis College tonight.  As well as Mont Alto playing the second game to open the PSUAC play for the season.

Mont Alto turned up the heat on the court to put a statement to the rest of the conference that they want to return to the conference championship game.  Visiting Penn State Dubois tried to fight through, but Mont Alto put them down early and didn't look back.

Mont Alto had not only scoring from all angles and players, but rebounds and assists spoke true to the effort and teamwork.  Senior big man, Jeremiah Mitchell ended the night with 18 points and 5 rebounds, while Chambersburg favorite Devonte Merritt put up 17 point and 7 rebounds of his own.

Returning All-American Jerome Evans added 12 points, while All-Conference Sharif Welton contributed another 12 points, and 4 assists.

Mont Alto ended the game with a 102-41 victory, and looks to build on that Sunday afternoon as they take on the buzz of the town in Wilson College.

Broadcast can be heard on ESPN 1380 with Coach Gordy on the Gordy's Sports World.
