Mont Alto Woes From The Free Throw Line Continue...

Mont Alto faced Penn State Beaver tonight in a rematch game of the 2014 semi-finals of the USCAA National Championship Tournament tonight at Mont Alto gym.  Last meeting found Beaver beating Mont Alto, and advancing to the National Title game.

Beaver went up in the first half, but Mont Alto's defense brought them back.  However, by the end of the first half Beaver hit a three in the closing minute to go up 41-30 headed into the half, and finding themselves shooting 5 for 10 from the 3 point line.

Beaver kept going to start the second half, getting their lead up to as much as 16.  Mont Alto fought back though, making some quality shots, and playing hard nosed Mont Alto defense.  Mont Alto took the lead, and then it became a re-run of the Lehigh Valley games.  Trading bucket for bucket, Mont Alto and Beaver fought hard for the final 10 minutes of the game.

With only a few minutes left Beaver had to start fouling to try to stay in the game, and it worked.  Mont Alto shot 16-28 from the free throw line, allowing Beaver to stay in the game.  With under a minute to play, Mont Alto went up by 1.  Beaver's Lamont Wright got the look he wanted, and drilled a 3 pointer with 3.7 seconds to go, putting his team up by 2.

Sharif Welton made a great pass to freshman guard Theo Remy who split two defenders, and got off a good shot at the buzzer, but it hit the front of the rim.  Beaver won the game 75-73.

Mont Alto's Devonte Merritt had a good night on the boards with 12, and added 10 points as well to his teams score.  Senior Jeremiah Mitchell put up 18 points, Remy added another 16, and Welton chipped in 13 more to help Mont Alto.

Mont Alto travels to Penn State Fayette next Saturday fro another PSUAC matchup.
