Mont Alto Won't Give Up...

Mont Alto Won't Give Up...

You never know who is going to step up for Mont Alto, and it's no different at the USCAA National Championships.  Although Corey Meyers is shooting the lights out of the gym, everyone is doing their part to win.

Tonight Mont Alto faced the #1 seeded team in the tournament, Southern Maine Community College.  Southern Maine had only 3 losses on the season, but have not played a game since February 22nd when they lost in overtime in their conference championship game.

Mont Alto was determined to make it back to the Semi-Finals for a second year in a row, and they were not going to let a #1 seed be any type of intimidation factor for them.  Mont Alto brought the same energy to this game taht they had in the first round gainst Warren Wilson.

Meyers started off with a few three pointers to start the game, and the Mont Alto defense was playing as hard as ever.  Sharif Welton also added some three pointers for Mont Alto, including one to tie the game goin into haltime.

Mont Alto went up by a couple to start the second half, but Southern Maine crawled right back.  With a few more buckets from Meyers, some huge rebounds from Devonte Merritt, and some big blocks from Demi Royster, Mont Alto started to pull away.  With just under seven minutes remaining Mont Alto took the lead by 15.

Southern Maine CC wouldn't stop fighting, and cut the lead little by little, but it was too late, as Mont Alto hung on to win the game, 71-67.

Meyers ended the game with 24 points, and 7 rebounds.  Devonte Merritt pulled down 12 rebounds, and Jeremiah Mitchell added another 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Mont Alto advances to the Semi-Finals, playing Johnson and Wales at 5:00 pm tomorrow.  To follow the live stats, or to watch the live stream please visit www.theuscaa.com
