And Then There Were 2...

And Then There Were 2...

No PSUAC team has ever won the USCAA Basketball National Championship game, but tomorrow Mont Alto will get the chance to break that.

Mont Alto looked flat in the first half of the semifinal game against Johnson & Wales tonight, but the good thing is they still had another half to play.  Down by 7 heading into the locker room, Mont Alto had to regroup to find what had won them so many games throughout the season.  The two things they had to remember were defense, and to play as a team.

Thought Johnson & Wales played hard, Mont Alto was not going to let them stand in their way of getting to the title game.  Mont Alto came out with a fire, and the entire team was bought in to the energy.  Devonte Merritt pulled down 10 rebounds, and was a physical presence of emotion to help his team.  Jeremiah Mitchell, Sharif Welton, and Corey Meyers all helped on the scoring end, as well as the impressive point guard leadership from freshman Thoe Remy.

The biggest story however was the Mont Alto defense.  They held Johnson & Wales to only 5 made field goals, and 19% shooting in the second half.  The defense was everywhere for Mont Alto, and it seemed like all 9 players were on the court at once.

Mont Alto never quit, and it proved to be enough as they came away with the 59-50 victory to advance them to the USCAA National Championship game.

Mont Alto will play Berkeley College of New York tomorrow in the championship game at 6:00 pm.
