State College, Pa. – Jerome Evans, Terrell Campell and Sharif Welton all earned PSUAC honors on Monday. Evans received the highest recognition as he was named PSUAC Player of the Year and was recognized as a first team All-PSUAC honoree. Campell and Welton were named to the honorable mention team.
This marks the second straight year that forward Jerome Evans was named first team All-PSUAC. This season Evans played in and started every game as a do-it-all player for the Lions. Controlling the paint, the senior center lead the team in scoring average (20.8), rebounds (11.1), field goal percentage (55.3%) and double-doubles (14). In addition to receiving All-PSUAC honors last year, Evans was named an All-American by the USCAA. The senior finishes his Penn State Mont Alto career as one of the most decorated athletes in program history.
Terrell Campell settled comfortably into the point guard position for Lions coach Jack Schenzel during the 2016-17 season. The sophomore started every game where he averaged 4.5 points, 6.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game.
Sharif Welton served as a valuable two-way forward for the Lions. The senior appeared in and started 15 games where he averaged 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The Williamsport, Pa. native shot 43 percent from the field and made 16 of the team's 166 3-pointers, shooting 34.8 percent.
The trio helped Penn State Mont Alto to a 13-13 record and to the PSUAC Postseason Tournament where it was unable to defend the title falling in the quarterfinals on a buzzer-beater to PSU Lehigh Valley, 70-68.
