MONT ALTO Pa. – Despite a 10-0 second half run that put the Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball team right back into the thick of things, Frederick Community College ran away late for the 84-77 win on Tuesday evening. Both teams rained 3-pointers with FCC shooting 8-of-26 from downtown compared to PSUMA who connected on 12-of-34.

Inside the Box Score

  • Mont Alto saw it's field goal percentage dip in the second half to 33.3% while FCC improved its shooting at a 48.3% clip from the field.
  • The Nittany Lions outrebounded the visitors by a 47-36 margin with John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) finishing with a double-double grabbing 10 boards to go along with 11 points.
  • Mont Alto scored a season-high 77 points in the loss as it featured a balanced scoring attack. Marcus Roper (Charles Town, W. Va. / Jefferson) finished with a team-high 17 points, while backcourt mate Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg) chipped in 16 points. The guard's combined to shoot 8-of-19 from downtown.
  • FCC saw nine different players tally 10 or more minutes on the court and had four players finish in double figures. Both Juwan Burnett and AJ Gregory scored 20 points and 19 points apiece coming off of the Cougars bench.

How it Happened

  • Roper got the crowd fired up with an early trey that put Mont Alto up 3-1. FCC went on an 8-0 run including back-to-back splashes from downtown to retake the lead. The squads picked up the pace and began playing coast to coast and a Nathan Osei (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) bucket tied it up at 15 with 11:17 left in the half.
  • Frederick and PSUMA battled back and forth over the course of the next 10-minute stretch. The Nittany Lions regained the lead at 39-38 after another Marcus Roper (Charles Town, W. Va. / Jefferson) trey. Flemister nearly hit a buzzer beater to close the half with FCC taking the 40-39 lead into halftime.
  • Mont Alto came out of the break aggressive and outscored the Cougars 10-4 to take the 49-44 lead. However, FCC picked up the pace and grabbed the 55-51 lead to force a timeout. The visitor's established a 10-point lead at 64-54 with 8:30 left.
  • The Nittany Lions went on a 10-0 over the next three minutes that was capped off by a Darrius Bush (Martinsburg, W.Va. / Spring Mills) layup to tie it up. The turning point of the game down the stretch was Domantas Sakickas earning a trip to the line for three-straight free throws in which he drained. They closed the game on a 14-8 scoring run for the 84-77 final.

Mont Alto (1-2) returns to action on Saturday in a road game against Christendom College. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
