Mont Alto men's basketball wins season opener 62-52

The Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball team picked up a win in its season opener contest against Williamson, a 62-52 victory. Cameron Williams had 16 points and led all Mont Alto scorers on Friday evening. Dariel Rivera had 15 points and Nathan Osei chipped in 14 in the winning effort. 

 

How It Happened-First Half

Williamson built an early lead with a Corby Bennett three pointer to get out ahead 6-3. Williamson remained out in front 9-6 until Nathan Osei was fouled on a three point jump shot, he converted on all three free throws tying the game at 9-9 with 13:53 left in the first half. Cameron Williams went on a 5-0 run of his own to push the Mont Alto lead to five at 16-11. Dariel Rivera connected on a three point shot a possession later to give Mont Alto a 19-11 lead. With Mont Alto leading 21-17 with 4:57 remaining, Jack Grace connected on a three point shot to cut the lead to one with Mont Alto up 21-20. Grace would hit another three a few minutes to cut the deficit to one with Mont Alto leading 21-20. 

 

First Half Stats

Williamson- Jack Grace had 14 points for Williamson, shooting 4-5 from the field and 3-4 from deep.

Penn State Mont Alto- Cameron Williams and Dariel Rivera each had seven points. Williams also had seven boards and three steals.

 

How It Happened-Second Half

Corby Bennett's jumper pushed Williamson up on top early in the second half 31-29. The Mont Alto deficit swelled to four points before Cameron Williams had a block on defense and went down to connect on a three pointer, putting Mont Alto in the lead 34-33. Nathan Osei converted on a three pointer and Williams made a layup to push Mont Alto up 39-34. Bryson Fleming connected on a corner three and Dariel Rivera made a layup off a Cameron Williams steal, putting Mont Alto in the lead 62-47.

Williamson- Corby Bennett led the way with seven second half points

 

Penn State Mont Alto- Nathan Osei (9), Cameron Williams (9) and Dariel Rivera (8) all came up just shy of double-digit second half points for Penn State Mont Alto. Osei and Williams each had five boards.

 

NOTABLE STATS

-Cameron Williams played a team-high 37 minutes for Penn State Mont Alto, scoring 16 points on 5 of 13 shooting including two three-pointers. He also had 12 rebounds and five steals.

-Dariel Rivera had 15 points in his first career start to go along with three rebounds and two steals.
