2023 Men's Basketball Preview

The Penn State Mont Alto Men’s Basketball team comes into the 2023-24 season with high expectations once again. Coming off a 21-9 season which ended in the quarterfinals of the USCAA National Tournament, Mont Alto hopes to push for a conference title and another trip to the USCAA Tournament in 2023-24.

Mont Alto returns four of its top five scorers this season headlined by Cameron Williams (12.4 PPG), Caleb Eckert (12.2) and Nathan Osei (11.8), all of whom earned postseason accolades.

Also returning are Dariel Rivera who averaged 8.7 PPG and Bryson Fleming (4.3) in the backcourt.

The front court features newcomers Veron Talla and Saihou Mbergan, while Lee Newton looks to take a step forward in production.

Guard Tevin Venson, who missed all of last season due to injury and Taralle Hayden, a newcomer will look to add depth to the back court.

Mont Alto will face some tough non-conference competition this season in NCAA Division II opponent Glenville State and NCAA Division III opponent Lycoming College in December before conference play fully ramps up.

Mont Alto Head Coach Jack Schenzel:

“This is probably the deepest and most athletic teams that we have had here at Mont Alto. The addition of Talla and Mbergan and the growth of Newton have given us a good group of big, athletic forwards to play alongside Eckert. Having Venson back this year will give some depth and talent to the backcourt. Williams and Osei have looked good in preseason and developed their games in the offseason. We have a strong two deep rotation and are developing a few guys for the next group that should step in and provide productive minutes. We have some big goals for the season, but we know we have to stay grounded in hard work and communication every day.”

Mont Alto opens the season tonight against Bucks County C.C. at 8 p.m.
