Penn State Mont Alto Golf sets records

Penn State Mont Alto Golf sets records

It was a great day to play golf at Penn National's Founders Course as Penn State Mont Alto hosted their home tournament that included Penn College, Penn State Fayette, Penn State Shenango, and Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday, September 15. Mont Alto's home-course advantage assisted them to a very impressing victory.

The team took first place overall with a team score of 306, which is now the school record for Penn State Mont Alto. The winner of the tournament was Mont Alto's Kevin Reiber with a score of 68. "Co-Captain Kevin Reiber was a medalist today with a 4-under-par 68.  He set a new school record that sub-par round.  Freshman Dan Zeiders fired a 77 despite his triple bogey 7 on hole #8.  Senior co-captain Seth Besecker added a 79 along with freshman Matt Barr's  82," Coach Bill Burke commented.

This is Reiber's first year at Mont Alto, and he has won every tournament so far.  This day was no different on the Founders Course.  "I was laid back since it's our home course and I play here a lot. We had the advantage as a team," Reiber said.  Reiber has been playing since age 12 and has worked hard all these years to improve his game by practice and dedication.  "I play in a lot of other tournaments on my own to gain as much experience as I can," Reiber explained. He plans to strive for as many wins as he can achieve, "I want to win every tournament and state tournament, as well as for our team to do well individually so we can keep winning as a team."

Coming in second place for Mont Alto was freshman Dan Zeiders who shot a 77.  "It was my best score all year and I felt good hitting the ball," Zeiders said. This is also his first year to play golf at Mont Alto and he says his strategies are to "play good and play how I know can play." Zeiders finished 4th overall in the tournament.  "Knowing the course was beneficial, it's tough to go into a course not knowing it and play well," Zeiders explained.

Overall, Mont Alto had a record breaking day of golf as a team and hopes to continue to be successful as they head to New Kensington next Tuesday.  That match starts at 11:00 a.m. in Apollo, PA  (near Pittsburgh).
