Mont Alto Golf Finishes 16th at Elizabethtown Invitational

HERSHEY, Pa. – Senior Austin Green (Greencastle, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) shot a 7-over par 78 on Tuesday as the Nittany Lions men's golf team finished 16th at the Elizabethtown Invitational at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

A wet morning gave way to warm and sunny conditions by the time the players teed off just after 1 p.m. at the Par 71, 6,412-yard course. Green tied for 27th-place out of 90 student-athletes as he has consistently shot sub-80 rounds at all four invitationals in which the team has competed in. 

Penn State Mont Alto's three remaining scorers were tightly bunched together. Newcomer Cameron Lee (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier) shot a 91 (+20), sophomore Robert Sirk (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) carded a 92 (+21) and Matthew Lynerd (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) finished with a 95 (+24).

Noah Witmer (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) was the other competitor for Mont Alto as he grinded through his round to card a 25-over par 96.

Gettysburg College won the team title finishing eight strokes (292) over par for the event. McDaniel College finished right behind them with a combined 294 strokes. Cabrini University finished in third (301, +17), Eastern University in fourth (305, +21) and Stevenson University in fifth (307, +23).

Penn State Mont Alto will now have less than a week to prepare for the PSUAC Blue Course Invitational on Monday, September 24.
