Mont Alto falls to Beaver on the road

The Penn State Mont Alto Soccer team is now two games into their 2011 season.  In their home opener against Penn State New Kensington, Mont Alto fell 0-2.  They worked hard the entire game, but just could not find the back of the net.  A week later, Mont Alto traveled to Penn State Beaver where they battled but lost 1-3 on the road.  Sophomore Nick Meier (Fleetwood, PA/Olney Valley) scored Mont Alto's lone goal late in the 2nd half with the assist coming from Beltus Azongho (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern).  Mont Alto started the game with full control of the ball and many shots on the goal.  They came within inches of scoring.

Although the Score was 0-1 at half time with Beaver leading, the play was even on both sides throughout the half.  Mont Alto had a little let down in the second half that Beaver took advantage of by scoring two more goals.  Mont Alto did not give up; Meier moved up in position to center-midfielder and took control.  Azongho played a nice pass to Meir, who beat the defenders and blasted a shot from the top of the penalty box that the goalkeeper could not get his hands on.  In goal for Mont Alto, Brian Moccabee (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) played the full 90 minutes snagging six saves, and allowing three goals, which he was challenged one on one each time.

With five minutes left, Mont Alto attacked the goal but they were unable to finish and they fell short of a win.  Mont Alto is looking to get their first win of the season next weekend Saturday, September 17th when they travel to Penn State Hazleton.
