Penn State Mont Alto Men's Soccer team added another win to their record in dominating fashion. They played Greater Allegheny at home on Wednesday and won 5-2. The game was physical, resulting in a couple yellow and red cards but Mont Alto was able to keep their heads in it and hold on to the lead throughout the whole game.
Corey Meyers, a sophomore who is playing in his first season for the soccer team, recorded his first career hat trick and led his team to victory.
In the first half, Jamaal Carter scored the first goal of the game when he received a pass from Brandon Angle and beat the keeper with his shot. Shortly after, Meyers headed a cross into the goal but it was called back due to a foul. Moments later, Meyers did the exact same thing from a cross by Angle but this time the goal counted. He added two more goals later in the game.
Sheriff Welton and Angle each had two assists, while Carter added one.
"We played really well together and recorded a big win," commented Coach Stenger. "Jamaal and Corey were a lot of help and had great movement up top. We outshot Greater Allegheny and scored on two restarts which is great for us."
Greater Allegheny scored their first goal off a penalty kick at a foul that was called in the box. They added their next goal in the second half when there was a bit of a let down on defense.
Jacob Sempowski had another good game in the goal and his defense in front of him kept Greater Allegheny from getting too many good chances on goal.
"Our four defenders in the back have really started to get comfortable together and play as one."
Alvin Muthoka topped off the scoring in the second half when he took a hard driven shot in the box that went right past the keeper.
Mont Alto's next game will be against Brandywine at home on September 24th at 4:00 p.m.
