Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's soccer team trailed in every statistical category for 90 minutes of regulation and was unable to build much momentum against a tough Berkeley College (N.J.) squad on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Knights found the back of the net seven times in the first half and added three in the second for a 10-0 win over Mont Alto.

The Lions have dropped three-straight to begin the 2017 season, while Berkeley College improves to 3-0 on the year. James Ashun, Wolfgang Whalen, and Edgar Jurado each netted a pair of goals to lead the Bulldogs. Mont Alto was without the services of starting goalkeeper Owen Gilbert (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) and relied upon Alex Martinez (Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson) and Steve Bierbower (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Career Magnet) between the pipes. Within the first half, Berkeley was quite active managing 19 shots with 14 of them on the goal frame. Mont Alto was sound defensively until the 15th minute when James Ashum got the visitors on the board with a pair of goals a little over three minutes apart. Berkeley added goals in the 24th, 28th, and scored another three to close out the half. YinJun Zhang (Shijiazhuang, China / Lake Country (Wisc.) had PSU Mont Alto's only shot of the half sliding the ball on target forcing a Wily Peralta save.

The visitors were more conservative in the second half only managing five shots, but they were placed well with the Bulldogs scoring three more goals. Mont Alto nearly scored its first goal of the season when on a two-on-one breakaway Nathan Woleslagle's (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) shot was saved by a diving Wily Peralta. Overall, the Lions had a season-high four shots in the loss.

Penn State Mont Alto returns to action on Wednesday, September 13 in a home match against Christendom College. Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
