Dunmore, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's soccer team traveled to the other side of the state on Wednesday for a PSUAC conference match with PSU Scranton. Mont Alto suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat.

All three of the goals were scored in a fast paced first half. Scranton struck first in the 23rd minute when James Cole snuck one past Mont Alto keeper Steve Bierbower (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Career Magnet) who appeared in goal for the third time this season for the Lions. Mont Alto would respond and equalize minutes later when freshman forward Nathan Woleslagle (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Scranton scored the eventual game-winner off the right foot of James Cole who scored his brace with just under five minutes left in the first half.

Usual starting goalkeeper Owen Gilbert (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) started in the midfield for Mont Alto before returning to the goal in the second half where he made four saves in the loss. Penn State Scranton outshot Mont Alto by a 13-9 margin and held a 8-7 advantage in corner kicks. Woleslagle led the team with four shots and Brendan Shannon (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) had three shots for Mont Alto.

The Lions will look to break their four-game losing streak on Saturday, October 7 in a road match with Penn State Beaver. First kick is slated for 2 p.m.
