MONT ALTO, Pa. – It took just over two minutes of the match to see a goal scored with both teams combined for 10 goals as Mont Alto dropped a home matchup 8-2 to PSU Beaver.
John Kazmierczyk got the scoring started for Beaver at the 2:35 mark and added to the visitors lead with another goal in the 14th minute. Beaver added another pair of goals from Travis Cook and Darrion Gilmore as the visitors took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
Beaver scored in the 51st minute and used a Shelton Hilliard solo effort to build a 6-0 lead. Mont Alto finally found its break through on a set piece. Skyler Miller (Shippensburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) curled in a beautiful ball for his fifth goal of the season making the score 6-1. The Lions continued on the offensive attack and the hard work was rewarded when YinJun Zhang (Shijiazhuang, China / Lake Country (Wisc.)) scored his first colligate goal hammering home a cross from Ryan Caloo (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge).
Beaver added another pair of late goals for the 8-2 decision. The visitors outshot Mont Alto by a 23-8 margin and also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Owen Gilbert (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) and Steve Bierbower (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Career Magnet) shared goalkeeping duties with the duo combining for seven saves in the loss.
Mont Alto will look to finish off its 2017 season on a high note in a road matchup against Washington Adventist on Monday, October 23. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
