MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State Mont Alto sophomore Owen Gilbert (Wells Tannery, Pa. / Forbes Road) was selected as the men's soccer goalkeeper of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Tuesday.

Gilbert answered the bell when called upon in Mont Alto's 3-2 opening match overtime defeat against Central Penn College. Despite his team's loss, Gilbert stepped into goal in the second half after spending the first half in the midfield where he dished out the assist on Nate Hall's 26th minute goal. Between the pipes, Gilbert collected 10 saves as he took over in net in the second half as his team played a man down before eventually falling in double overtime.

The sophomore appeared in 17 games as a keeper during the 2017 season and had a 5.28 goals against average. However, it is expected that Gilbert will be featured as a field player for much of this season.

Penn State Mont Alto return to action in its first home game of the season on Saturday, September 8 against Williamson College of the Trades. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
