MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's soccer team nearly had its first win of the 2018 season, but PSU York spoiled their efforts with a second half equalizer that sent the match into overtime. Neither Mont Alto nor PSU York could find the back of the net during 20 minutes of extra time as the match on Sunday afternoon concluded in a 1-1 draw.

Mont Alto controlled the flow and possession of the match in the opening minutes and was rewarded in the 14th minute when Joel Wadel (Saint Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan) found the back of the net. Wadel scored the first goal in three matches for PSUMA as he connected on a Nate Hall (New Bloomfield, Pa. / West Perry) flick that caught the PSU York goalkeeper out of position. Mont Alto took the 1-0 lead into halftime as it also held the 9-8 advantage in shots within the first half.

Penn State York won an early corner kick opportunity to begin the second half and at the 46:54 mark, Carlos Robles-Flores headed the set piece opportunity that was assisted by Alejandro Marcano. Both teams traded solid scoring opportunities in the remaining minutes of the second half including a Drew Faust (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) free kick that was saved in the 84th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Austin Moore (Brockway, Pa. / Brockway Area) finished the match with 10 saves, playing all 110 minutes in net.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday in a conference match at Penn State Greater Allegheny at 4 p.m.
