Penn State Mont Alto Softball snagged their first victory of the season against Hagerstown Community College.  Despite the rain and chilly temperatures, Mont Alto finished with eight runs in seven innings, HCC tallying six.  "I was pleased with the performance of our team," Head Coach Bobby Davis explained.  "We improved considerably over the last week with our hitting, fielding and base running."

On the mound, Sophomore Kristyan Gates (Hanover, PA/Hanover) pitched the whole game, only allowing seven hits, striking out five and walking four.  Gates received the win for the game, her first of the year.  Also on defense, Sara Replogle (Gardners, PA/Carlisle) and Kieara Fleagle (Gardners, PA/Carlisle) both made outstanding catches to prevent HCC from sending anyone home.  On offense, Amber Zinobile (Three Spring, PA/Southern Huntington) was up to the plate four times, hitting twice and earning two RBIs.  Laura Dell (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) saw batting action three times, hitting twice (both were doubles) and sending one home for an RBI.  Sophomore Sharielle Wray (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) hit a line drive to center field, landing her a double.  Replogle also found the gap in center field, making it to second base.  With thirty-four at bats, eleven hits, and four doubles, the team did well offensively.

Penn State Mont Alto Softball will travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny Sunday April 3rd for a 12:00 p.m. double header.  The games will be played at Woodland Hills High School, 2550 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh, PA.
